2. Accepting these terms

By using this site — submitting a form, voting, signing up for text messages, or simply browsing — you agree to these Terms and to our Privacy Policy. If you do not agree, please do not use the site.

You must be at least 18 years old to submit a form, sign up for text messages, or otherwise provide personal information to us. An adult may do so on behalf of a minor in their care.

3. What this site does

• Rider matching. You tell us where you are and what you are looking for, and we introduce you to nearby lesson programs.
• Program listings. Lesson programs list themselves so riders can find them.
• Spectator Guide. Schedule, class information, vendors and directions during a horse show.
• People's Choice voting. An informal crowd favourite vote.
• Ask Scottie. An automated assistant that answers questions about the show.

4. Lesson programs are independent

This is the most important thing on this page.

Lesson programs listed on this site are independent businesses and individuals. AHAA does not employ, supervise, insure, endorse or vet them. We do not verify their qualifications, certifications, insurance, safety practices, facilities, horses or staff.

Matching is based only on geographic distance between the ZIP code you give us and the ZIP code and self-declared service radius a program gave us. A match means a program is nearby and said it serves your area. It is not a recommendation, a rating, or any statement about quality or safety.

Any lessons, training, agreements or payments are strictly between you and the program. We are not a party to them. We strongly encourage you to visit the facility, ask about instructor qualifications and insurance, and satisfy yourself that a program is right for you before riding.

5. Riding horses carries real risk

Horseback riding and other equine activities are inherently dangerous. Horses can be unpredictable. Participants can be seriously injured or killed. By using this site to find a lesson program, you acknowledge that you understand and accept these risks.

Under Arizona law (A.R.S. § 12-553), an equine owner or agent is generally not liable for injuries to a person who takes control of an equine, where the inherent risks of equine activities have been explained or are otherwise understood. Nothing on this site removes or reduces your responsibility to ride safely, wear appropriate protective equipment, and follow the instructions of the program you ride with.

6. The first-lesson discount

Where a discount on a first lesson is offered, it is honoured by the participating lesson program, not by AHAA. It applies to one first lesson per new rider, cannot be combined with other offers, has no cash value, and is not redeemable for cash. A program may withdraw from the offer at any time. Any dispute about the discount is between you and the program.

7. Listing your program

If you list a lesson program, you represent and warrant that:

• you are authorised to list it and to be contacted about it;
• the information you provide is accurate and kept up to date;
• you hold the licences, qualifications and insurance appropriate to the instruction you offer and will comply with all applicable laws;
• you will handle rider contact details we send you responsibly, use them only to respond about lessons, and comply with all laws that apply to contacting them.

Your listing details are shown to riders and may be displayed publicly on this site. AHAA may pause, edit or remove any listing at any time, for any reason, without notice. Listing is free and creates no partnership, agency, employment or joint-venture relationship between you and AHAA.

8. Show schedules and class information are unofficial

Class numbers, times, rings, entries and results shown in the Spectator Guide are compiled from published show documents and may be incomplete, out of date, or wrong. Schedules change constantly during a show.

The Guide is a convenience, not an official source. Always confirm with the show office or the official printed schedule before relying on any time or location. AHAA is not responsible for a class missed, an entry mistimed, or any other loss arising from reliance on information in the Guide.

Maps, GPS coordinates and walking directions are approximate and provided through third-party services. Take care of your surroundings; do not follow directions into an arena, a work area, or anywhere unsafe.

9. People's Choice voting

People's Choice is an informal, unofficial, entertainment-only crowd vote. It is not judged, not sanctioned, and has no bearing on the official results of any class or show. Official placings are determined solely by the show's licensed judges.

Voting is intended as one vote per person. We use a light-touch method to reduce duplicate voting that does not verify identity, so results should be treated as indicative fun, not as a rigorous poll. AHAA may discard votes it believes to be duplicated, automated or manipulated, and may correct, suspend or withdraw any tally at any time.

10. Ask Scottie

Ask Scottie is an automated assistant that answers from show information we have loaded. It can be wrong or out of date, and it is not a substitute for the show office. Questions and answers are logged so we can improve it — see our Privacy Policy. Please do not type sensitive personal information into the chat.

11. Text messages

These terms govern the text-message programs offered on this site.

• Programs. Event alerts — a reminder before a class or activity you have chosen to follow. News and events — occasional messages about upcoming show classes and AHAA events.
• Signing up. You opt in by entering your mobile number and ticking the consent box. One permission covers both programs above. You must be 18 or older and the account holder, or have the account holder's permission.
• Consent is never required. Agreeing to receive texts is not a condition of any purchase, of voting, or of using any part of this site.
• Frequency. Event alerts: roughly one message per class or activity you follow. News and events: occasional, and heavier around show dates.
• Cost. Message and data rates may apply. Ask your mobile carrier about your plan.
• Stopping. Reply STOP to any message to opt out. Reply HELP for help, or contact us at [email protected] or 480.515.1500.
• Carriers. Mobile carriers are not liable for delayed or undelivered messages. Delivery is not guaranteed, and you should not rely on an alert as your only reminder.

12. Acceptable use

Please do not: submit false information or someone else's personal details without their permission; submit a phone number you are not authorised to use; attempt to manipulate voting; scrape, crawl or bulk-download the site; attempt to gain access to any non-public part of it; interfere with its operation; or use it for anything unlawful.

13. Our content

The site, its design, text, graphics and logos are owned by AHAA or its licensors and are protected by intellectual property laws. You may use the site for its intended personal, non-commercial purpose. Content you submit — such as your program listing — remains yours, but you grant AHAA a non-exclusive, royalty-free licence to display and distribute it in connection with operating and promoting the site and the program.

14. Third-party services

The site uses and links to third-party services including Google Maps, Google Fonts, Google Analytics and Cloudflare, and links out to other websites. We do not control them and are not responsible for their content, availability or practices. Their own terms and privacy policies apply to your use of them.

15. Disclaimer and limit of liability

The site is provided "as is" and "as available", without warranties of any kind, whether express or implied, including any implied warranty of merchantability, fitness for a particular purpose, or non-infringement. We do not warrant that the site will be uninterrupted, error-free, or that any information on it is accurate or complete.

To the fullest extent permitted by law, AHAA and its officers, directors, volunteers, employees and agents will not be liable for any indirect, incidental, special, consequential or punitive damages, or for any loss of profits, data, goodwill, or for personal injury arising from your use of the site or from any interaction with, or instruction by, any lesson program found through it. Our total liability for any claim relating to the site will not exceed one hundred US dollars ($100).

Some jurisdictions do not allow certain limitations, so parts of this section may not apply to you. Nothing here limits liability that cannot be limited by law.

16. Indemnity

You agree to indemnify and hold harmless AHAA and its officers, directors, volunteers, employees and agents from any claim, loss or expense (including reasonable legal fees) arising from your use of the site, your breach of these Terms, or your violation of any law or the rights of another.

17. Changes to these terms

We may update these Terms. When we do, we will change the "Last updated" date above. Material changes will be highlighted on the site where practical. Continuing to use the site after a change means you accept the updated Terms.

18. Governing law

These Terms are governed by the laws of the State of Arizona, without regard to its conflict-of-laws rules. You and AHAA agree that any dispute will be brought exclusively in the state or federal courts located in Maricopa County, Arizona.
