Cookie Policy

The short version
We use a handful of cookies to keep the site working and secure, and Google Analytics to count visitors.
The Spectator Guide also saves things in your browser — your phone number, which classes you follow, your voting identifier — so you do not have to type them again.
You can clear all of it from your browser settings at any time.
1. Cookies and local storage
A cookie is a small file a website stores in your browser and reads back on later visits. Local storage does something similar but stays in your browser and is never automatically sent to us. This site uses both, and both are listed below.
2. Cookies we use
| Name | Set by | Expires | Purpose |
|---|---|---|---|
ra_attribution |
This site | 1 year | Remembers how you first arrived — the campaign tags, referring site and landing page — so we can tell which flyers, QR codes and ads actually bring riders in. Also holds the IP address and browser recorded at that first visit. |
ride-an-arabian-session |
This site | 2 hours | Identifies your browsing session so forms and pages work correctly. Strictly necessary. |
XSRF-TOKEN |
This site | 2 hours | Protects forms against cross-site request forgery. Strictly necessary. |
__cf_bm, cf_clearance |
Cloudflare | 30 minutes – 1 year | Distinguishes people from bots and keeps the site available under heavy show-week traffic. Strictly necessary. |
_ga, _ga_G1JH2ZE2RJ |
Google Analytics, via Google Tag Manager | Up to 2 years | Counts visitors and shows us which pages get used. We see totals and trends, not individuals by name. |
3. What the Spectator Guide saves in your browser
These stay on your device in local storage until you clear your browser data. They are not sent to us automatically, though some are included when you submit a form.
| Name | What it holds |
|---|---|
ra_sms_consent | Your mobile number, your name and email if you gave them, and the fact that you agreed to receive texts — so we only ever ask you once. |
ra_sms_prompt_seen | That you closed the text sign-up without agreeing, so we don't ask you again. |
ra_pc_token | A random identifier for your votes, so the same device is not counted twice. Not linked to your name. |
ra_pc_email | Your email address, if you signed up for news — used so your vote counts once across your phone and laptop. |
ra_follows | Which classes and activities you asked to be alerted about. |
ra_alert_phone | A mobile number saved by an earlier version of this site. We still read it so you are not asked to consent twice, but we no longer write it. |
ra_alert_name | A name saved by an earlier version of this site, read for the same reason. |
4. Third-party content on our pages
- Google Maps — the maps and walking directions in the Spectator Guide are embedded from Google, which may set its own cookies when a map loads.
- Google Fonts — our typeface is loaded from Google's font service, which receives your IP address as part of that request.
- Google Tag Manager — loads our analytics.
These services are governed by Google's privacy policy, not ours.
5. Why there is no cookie banner
You may be wondering why there is no cookie banner on this site. The cookies above are either strictly necessary to make the site work and keep it secure, or are simple visitor analytics. This site is operated from Arizona for a United States audience, and neither federal nor Arizona law requires consent before setting them. We would rather list everything plainly on this page than interrupt you with a pop-up you have to dismiss to read a class schedule.
6. How to control cookies
- Browser settings let you block or delete cookies. Blocking the strictly necessary ones will stop forms and voting from working.
- Clearing site data for rideanarabian.com removes both the cookies and everything in the table in section 3.
- Google Analytics: install the opt-out browser add-on.
- Do Not Track: browsers send this signal inconsistently and there is no agreed standard for responding to it, so we do not currently respond to it.
7. Changes and contact
We will update this page when what we use changes. Questions: [email protected].
